KARTIK JOURNAL – 3

Surrender to Krishna is best exemplified when we submit our ears and tongue to the Lord. We hear and talk all the time. If we chose to engage our hearing and talking in a way that brings us closer to God then we have utilized the KARTIK month most effectively.

Often we gossip or criticize without realizing how damaging it is to our inner wellbeing. Imagine someone eats indiscriminately all the unhealthy foods that are prohibited by the doctors. It will destroy his health. When we hear or read criticism of others, we allow harmful content to enter our hearts; it debilitates our inner health.

If we choose to not criticize or offend other sincere spiritualists for at least one month, we may be surprised by the happiness we experience. A major cause of our suffering in this world is our inability to appreciate others and our refusal to express thank you to God for the incredible gifts he has given us.

As soon as we rise in the morning, do we moan about not having rested properly at night or do we feel grateful for the opportunity to explore yet another day? What is your spontaneous inner response during the wee hours?

If we can practise appreciation and gratitude every morning and night for one month, we may have changed our lives for good.

Many people live in the ‘gap’ – they see theirs and others inadequacy and how things could have been better. There are others who live in the ‘gain’ mindest – they meditate on the blessings they have recieved.

We could rise each morning and see the ‘gap’ and work hard during the day. At night however, before we retire, we could live in the ‘gain’ and allow contentment and happiness to reign in our hearts. It’s important we end the day satisfied; that ensures we rest peacefully. And we could be motivated to work hard in the day to achieve our goals.

It’s only the foundation of thankfulness in an abundant heart that helps one experience God in his or her life.

Therefore let us make this KARTIK month a life changer.
